2019 President's Message

Posted February 1, 2019

As the new President of the PHCC of Long Island, I am determined to keep up the high standard of professionalism that my predecessors have instilled on this organization. We will continue to build awareness for the PHCC, as the more people know about us, the more we will grow.

One major way in which we will grow is by promoting, and building awareness of, the skilled trades. Ultimately, educators must help us in this effort by informing students of college alternatives and the great careers available in our industry. One of our Associate Members, Jerry Katz from Wallace Eannace, has done a great job in getting us involved with the Boy Scouts of America. Working with this fantastic organization has been the perfect platform to speak to young people and expose them to the opportunities that come from pursuing a career in the plumbing, heating and cooling industry. We hope that by exposing young people to the industry early on, it will spark an interest as they get older.

The PHCC of LI has developed a scholarship for those participating in the NYS PHCC e.Learning Apprenticeship Academy. This scholarship will be awarded annually, and applicants can reapply each year. This is an ideal program for apprentices who need a non-traditional method of receiving their apprenticeship-related instruction, as the courses are hosted online.

Last year, we partnered with the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation to build a smart home for a local Purple Heart Recipient. Members joined together to construct this new home for a true American Hero, U.S. Army CPL Christopher Levi (Ret.) who was injured in Iraq as a result of an IED explosion. We were honored to have the opportunity to be involved in a great cause.

These are just a few of the ways that we will continue to promote the PHCC through volunteerism and awareness. I am greatly looking forward to continuing these initiatives and growing our partnerships with the Tunnels to Towers Foundation, Habitat for Humanity and the Boy Scouts of America. I am also very optimistic about building relationships with educators at schools across Long Island and working together to promote our industry.

Regards,
